Well it finally happened :( My beautiful beautiful 3310 died. It was sad really but it had been sick for a while so I guess it was a mercy of sorts.
So I upgraded to the 3410 after an embarrasing ten minutes in the carphone warehouse while the sales guy patiently explained to me that no I couldnt buy another 3310 for the same reason that PC World wouldn't sell me a BBC Microsystem.
So whats different about the 3410?
Well theres a lot of extra stuff built onto the stable bones of the 3310. It's got the 3330s WAP engine and more importantly JAVA support!
Javascript gives you the technology to play and develop those cool ass games like bubble bobble. You can also write applications like personal assistants and the like - although I can't find any ready made ones to download yet.
Although mobileJava is quite cut down it still opens up a huge potential for personalising your fone and turning it into a more interactive and customisable experience.
Another feature which I don't think was on the 3330 is a crude graphic picture editor. Like the CBF editor its pixel based but the darn things so tiny it's impossable to get a quick and satisfying result from! Still...it's there. It's there.
So I'm happy with it! I'm definately spending more time WAP browsing, (even though I'm doing it from the LYCOS emulator - well, it is darned expensive after all) and the idea of writing my own apps and games and using an online server to transfer them to my fone is very appealing.
I give the 3410 a hearty thumbs UP!
