What are your thoughts on Racism? Spoke about it at the dinner table today and boy.. did Alice have some things to sayy..

unfortunately I think racism will always exist as its human nature sadly, just look at any large town or city one area of town can't even get on with the other so what chance does the rest of the world have, we are pre-programed with a set of instincts that we have inherited from our cavemen ancestors, and much like every living creature one of those instincts is to be teritorial, fortunately most of us have evolved past the fighting for our turf stages but that instinct is still there and by default we do not like people from other areas or countries much like most species of animal on the planet, for most of us though those instincts aren't very strong and as humans we are blessed with the ability to over-ride these basic instincts to an extent hence some people have no real beef with people of other ethnic backgrounds etc but deep down somewhere its there, add to that its only over the last few hundred years that cultures have been mixing freely, it will take hundreds possibly thousands more years before our instincts and ways of thinking adapt to that, the current ilegal imigrant situation is also not helping matters much as it is only breeding further resentment.

Yeah, I mean just look at star trek - maybe in some futuristic time we'll be able to see past pointy ears and rogue eyes without batting an eyelid.

my cousin is black he is ok now but there was a point when he used to get picked on alot! i cant stand ppl like that its just horrieable! :mad:

There's this girl in my year who's black, but kind ov asian/black and she ends up in tears most days because ppl r so racist towards her

i'm from whats can be classed as "an ethnic minority"... i'm filippino, and i've been in the receiving end of racism many times, but i've generaly tended to ignore it and forget it... it's unlikely that it'll disppear... i know it's not everyone, just a small select group with their own beliefs but hey...

I'd quite like to be black actually! I think it's a great skin colour, rather than lookin all pale n half dead, well, ok I dont look that bad but still...I love balck comedy too, like fresh prince of Bel air :D

lol i agree with anti...if we could just make the whole world chill out and get on with each other, everyone would see how much better it was and stop killing each other...except for the ones on the shotgun rampage, but thats beside the point. anyway lets not turn this into a legalise LSD debate...

erm maybe they go to hot countries because like most people they enjoy a holiday in a warm country like Greece, as opposed to a misserable 2 weeks in Siberia, besides the fact its all to easy to define racism as all about the colour of someones skin, thats a shallow assumption as skin colour is only the difference that defines a race, clash of cultures is what actually fuels racism as people are racist towards arabs and loads of other races who are white, the fact that a lot of racial abuse is focused on the cosmetic differences between races, is purely down to good old human nature ie if someone is fat then if someone dislikes them they will probably use that against them.
