ok help may be at hand, I'm pressuming you are both using a dial up (standard) internet connection, right once you have connected to the net and the two wee monitors icon is displayed on your taskbar next to the clock, hover your mouse above this to see what speed you have connected at if it doesn't say right click on it and choose properties, if you are connecting at anything between say 45000kbs and 56000kbs then its normal anything less than 45000kbs then get on the dog and bone and give your phone company a ruddy good reaming and while your at it get them to turn the gain up on your line a little, this may cause some background noise over your phone but should help your connection a little, you could also go into the control panel click modems icon and click properties button on the next bit click the connection tab then click advanced, you should now be on a screen with an "Extra settings box" in this box type S11=50 this will increase the frequency of your modems tone pulse to the max possible, this should make dialing up a bit quicker hope this helps :)

1mb broadband here Mr G :p Although that might've been useful when I had dial up

lol in light of that my advice now seems somewhat antiquated, not sure what can be causing your slow down as I'm on 1mb broadband and I'm flying, could just be down to the sites you are visiting as some sites are pretty slow :)

Mine is less than you said. But a while back i did increse my gain on my line, but then whats the problem?

ok the reason a lot of people suffer slow conection speeds on dial up is caused by the rubbish 2 strand copper wire that BT uses, unfortunately unless you can convince them to upgrade the lines in your area theres not a lot you can do about it.

PS SuNnErS forgot to ask are you using NTL broadband? if so slow down is to be expected, to avoid this get Blueyonder 1mb broadband instead :)

Ive blueyonder (telewest) 512 k connection, and it is panties! It all depends on how busy/saturated your UBR is. I live in birmingham which is obviously over populated and everyone in my area has gone for broadband!

The UBR my house is on is 97% full and the connection and d/l speeds are really slow at times, but my mate just 4 roads down has really good speeds, Telewest are proposing to relocate the busy UBR to spread it out a bit, so it may not be who you are with, it just depends who is hogging the bandwidth and how many people you are competing for bandwidth with. Ive heard NTL are now limiting downloads to 1 gig per user per day :).

You jammy gets with your 1 meg connection shouldnt have nout to worry about anyhoo, sort it !!!!!!!!! :P
