From today, two add-ons will be available to contract customers to allow open access. Currently no further details are known, but here are the prices:
Mobile Websites @ £2.50/mth
Wireless Web @ £45.00/mth
It's still a pitiful network, but this is the first step to the revival of mobile internet.

Is it me being thick, or before the 1st of September, you could not access WAP on Three? And now you have to pay £2.50 a month for it on top of your contract as an add-on?
I was tempted to buy a 3G phone on a Three Contract so I have an up-to-date phone and use the wonderful services CBFMobile have to obtain brilliatnt ringtones such as the classic "Amarillo", but now I'm not so sure.
Any help/advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Hi Rob,
There has never been, and currently still isn't, open data access on Three. You can only browse the Three area.
It has been revealed that the Mobile Web add-on for £2.50 a month will only grant access to 100-200 mobile sites selected by Three. These sites will not include sites like CBFMobile as we're a direct threat to their ringtone revenues.
If you want to enjoy all the benefits of a 3G phone then I strongly recommend looking to Orange or Vodafone for the time being. Vodafone, particularly, have some very competitive deals.

I wouldn't recommend going down that road, as currently about the only phones worthy of note on 3 are the Nokia 6630 and 6680, both of which you wont be unlocking for £10 anytime soon due to the DCT5 locks in place, this means the only way of unlocking them is to pay 3 £115, personally I agree with Ben on this one if you want to experience 3G look towards Vodafone or Orange both are vastly superior to 3.

If your already on 3's network and have an unlockable phone then by all means I'd say unlocking it is the way forward, but if your thinking of getting a new phone then its not the way forward.
I'd avoid that Motorola/Ipod phone like the plague industry pundits say its not even worth looking at its a turkey, it will only have a maximum of 512mb of memory for music which has to be and I quote "sideloaded from a computer using itunes" the fact that its built by Motorola means it will also be absolutely cack as a phone by default, I mean there are already several phones out there that can hold and play 512mb of music, some can hold far more so one with a Motorola badge fails to impress in the slightest, this could be the first ipod branded item that fails to sell.

Possibly, although I can't see Apple making one anytime soon, they are merely trying to grab a slice of the mp3 mobile phone pie without suffering an embarrassing crushing from rivals, when the Motorola/ipod phone fails to impress and has been pummeled by the N91 amongst others, Apple will simply point the finger at Motorola and tell you its there phone we only provided the itunes software. ;)

well if you don't mind me sayin, that is a bloody smart thing to do!!
I mean yu would have to blame some one , why not blame motorola for its possible failiure! I mean apple can never do anything wrong in my eyes!!
Oh how i love Apple:love: And the Mac OS is the bestest in the world,, can you get a smart phone that has a apple OS sorta ::rolleyes:
think i have to go to the ......:eww:

If I'm being honest I can't help but think the Motorola/ipod phone was Apple's lame attempt to have a pop at Nokia, a bit of the old two can play at that game kinda thing gone wrong slightly, Nokia have been fairly open about the fact they are aiming to take a slice of Apple's ipod market when it launches the frankly amazing N91, I think Apple in turn thought they could steal a slice of Nokia's market share by releasing an ipod phone, although given that they chose to partner with Motorola it would seem there intentions were slightly misguided and ill fated from the outset, as last time I checked Nokia's market share had grown and Motorola's had fallen, so it seems Apple have tried to take on Nokia in its own backgarden and come armed with a pea shooter, while Nokia has a great big N91 shaped A bomb. :D

That ROKR phone also has a cap of 100 songs ;) so don't be expecting to to be rocking out like an ipod, unless you ditch using itunes on the phone, and play your songs on the motorola default media player. It would have been much better if Apple had designed the thing, and whacked on a click wheel instead of just addeding iTunes to an E398. (My mate has had that phone for months now, on 3 i think.)

Thats what i think, hopefully apple will make theor own mobile, would be a huge sucess i think, cause there are so many apple fans out there!
But i know that ROKR phone has came out at the Carphone warehouse exclusively for O2. Well we can only wait and see if apple do make their own phone!

I think the chances of Apple making there own phone are extremely slim to non existent, but even if they did I doubt it'd be upto much as theres more to making a good phone than being able to play mp3's, which in my opinion ipods don't even do all that well, I think Apple will be more interested in trying to get there itunes software onto more mobile phones, or possibly partnering with another company to make another ipod phone, Samsung being a possibility since they supply the flash chips used in the flash based ipods, but again I doubt it'd be upto much as Samsung have yet to produce anything that was above mediocre.
