no matter what i try and do, the MMS will sit in my outbox and will not leave my phone. i have all the necessary settings installed, which were sent from orange. If i look at the outbox, it will say "Failed" then "Deferred" then "Resend at XX:XX" (where XX:XX is the time when the phone will try and resend). it just keeps going into that loop every time

Hey,

How big is the MMS message? If it's over 100kb Orange wont allow it to be sent... so you can rule out most video over a few seconds long!

the messages i try and send are under 40 KB....

this phone is cool but when it wont send MMS, the battery runs low too quickly (when not in use) and it restarts itself, then it starts to do my head in....

Eep. Sounds like you need new firmware and a new battery for starters.

It does sound like you'll need to call Orange to get this issue resolved though... something's not right somewhere along the line! Perhaps the SIM isn't MMS-enabled? :S Can you receive MMS ok?

Seriously though... getting the firmware upgraded might help.

i assume MMS is enabled as i can use my GPRS connection (which is what MMS uses) to connect to WAP sites...

since it is over a year and a half old, i wonder if its worth spending cash on to make it work the way its supposed to (its got a nasty scratch on the screen too, which is only visible when the backlight/phone is off), might as well buy a new fone on Orange and stick my current sim in that..... if that really is the only option...

MMS and GPRS are different, afaik. If the SIM is old then it'd be worth asking Orange to send you a new one altogether. Otherwise, if it's newish, then maybe it is the phone. The 6600 is a good phone though, and I doubt it's beyond economical repair.

You are both correct - yes MMS uses GPRS like you said, but as Ben mentioned WAP and MMS are two different features / settings and need to be provisioned seperately.
If your 100% sure that the settings are correct, then your sim isnt MMS enabled and you will have to fone Orange to get this done.
Also like Ben said, you may well need a software upgrade to fix the restarting thing.
Not a big deal, will cost you around £15.
One thing you could try is a hard reset which often fixes this issue, but be warned it will format ur 6600s 'user area'. ie you will lose all apps, pics , tones etc that you have added yourself to the fone memory (if you have installed anything to the MMC, this will be safe)
You can do this by pressing *#7370#
but be warned it will reset everything and is at your own risk.

i did the hard reset once before to fix the "Select Access Point" problem....

EDIT: the sim is new
