First off, hello again :)

Anyway, I figured this would be the place to consult for some help. I recently got a nokia n70 for christmas, vodafone contract. Its been excellent. However i charged my phone up this morning (the battery ran out last night whilst i was sleeping) and when I turned it on I got 'sim card registration failed'. WTF?

As I say I've never had any problems for over a month...anybody got any ideas what could be wrong? Cheers.

Well, the first step is to take out the SIM card and wipe the contacts with a dry, soft cloth (do the handset contacts also). A quick visual inspection may also indicate if the SIM contacts are worn away or if there are any other problems.

Next up, it's possible the problem lies with the handset or the SIM card. Turn on the phone with the battery cover off. Once it's on, remove the battery without shutting it down first. Leave the battery out for 15 minutes or so, then replace the battery and see if switching the phone on again resolves the error.

If you're still having problems you need to contact Vodafone Customer Services. It's possible you need a replacement SIM card, probably the best avenue to start at, unless you have another phone handy that you can test the SIM card in. The other scenario is that the handset will have to be replaced or repaired. If you have insurance you should be able ot get a replacement issued very quickly. If not, you'll have to argue your case, mentioning that the phone is very new and that you've really been enjoying the service, and plead with the CSR to replace the handset. If that doesn't work, you'll probably be advised to send the phone off for repair or take it to a Nokia Service Centre (usually your local Carphone Warehouse).

Good luck, let us know how the troubleshooting goes, and remember to be very nice and polite to the CSR you speak to at Vodafone - I've found that most CSR's will go out of their way to help you if you make them feel like the good guy/gal in the process.

Cheers Ben, I'll try what you've suggested.

'sim card registration failed' usually means either the sim has been disconnected, or the handset has been reported lost/stolen.
Thankfully in ur case, its NOT the 2nd of these as Vodafone handsets/sims still show the network logo if the phone has been blacklisted (you just cant call out obviously)
Im 90% sure a quick call to CS will sort the problem out :)

Well the problem is that I apparently haven't paid my monthly bill, so they disconnected me. Can't get it switched on till tommorrow. Not happy because on my bill it said charged by Direct Debit so it should come out of my bank account directly. Sigh.
