Nuthead,
I have a problem with my PC. It is terribly slow loading up. I know wot you must be thinking, it is a crap computer. Its not! Its not old and we bought it brand new. Alot of stuff has been stored on the computer, is it this that may be causing the problem?

I don't mean to take over but have you defragmented your computer recently? there is an option in the start menu in accessories then system tools. it basically sorts everything on your hard drive. A bit like tidying your bedroom. It makes quite a bit of difference to speed if you haven't done it for a while, but then it also takes a long time. Before you defrag you should turn your screen saver off and any power saving things aswell so your computer will not be trying to load anything else at the same time. just turn your monitor off and let it do its job!

how long have you had it roughly?

sorry nuthead :o :D :o

also try doing a disk clean up this can be found by opening My Computer and RIGHT clicking on your drives and goining to properties there you will find a disk clean up option this will remove all temprary internet files I E the pictures which take up alot of space too!

defragging and uninstalling are both good ideas. Its also worth going to start>run and typing MSCONFIG. Click on the startup tab and untick anything you dont use apart from scanreg, systray and statemgr but if in doubt LEAVE IT TICKED!!!! :P

if its slow to load before windows then its a whole different kettle of fishies!

Amir_3k, Microsoft are trying hard to move away from DOS, there's only a very limited version of it on XP which is why so many commands are missing!

Pretty much most programs these days have updates on their respective sites for windows XP, but if you did want to revert back to 98, it might be worth asking the shop, but it's unlikely they would do it, but it is easy enough to do yourself, just as case of formatting your HD and installing 98, I'm sure one of us would be glad to talk you through it.

I have to agree with Andy there... Unless you go to some independant computer shop, they might be able to knock you something up!

TURBODIESEL: Just buy a computer with no operating system installed on it, most companys on the net will supply one without Windows, it used to be pretty hard to get a pc without Windows due to Microsoft and there competition stifling ways, but them days are long gone now and you can buy one no probs without it, also another plus side to this is you save a bit of money cause your not paying for an operating system you aint gonna use, then all you do is install your current Windows 98 on it and Bobs your Auntie ;)

Tifosi: What graphics card you using? and are you using the latest drivers for it? :)

Yip it just turned out to be the graphics card - they tell me it was a bit dodgy, thats a new computer for you!!!
