Mobile operator Vodafone UK will launch a new tariff for Pay As You Talk customers on 1 July 2006.

According to the company, Pay As You Talk customers who spend GBP5.00 during the week will get free calls to any UK network and texts at the weekend, while those who spend GBP2.50 will receive free texts at the weekend. The weekend starts at 1930 on Friday and ends at 0000 on Monday.

Free Weekends is available on all Smartplus and Smartstep Pay As You Talk price plans. Vodafone customers must opt-in for free to receive the offer, and they will receive a text message when they have reached the GBP2.50 or GBP5 limit to indicate that they will get free calls and texts at the weekend, the company claims.

Details will be up from tomorrow I'd imagine, so look to the Vodafone website then.

Be sure to read the terms carefully when the offer goes up, it may well override any other offer you're currently making use of.

Vodafone are really starting to pile the hurt onto the lesser networks, they sat on the fence for quite a while and watched O2 give away a shed load of free sims and texts, and then when no one was expecting it BAM sucker punch, I'm liking this more aggressive strategy from Vodafone, as it can only be a good thing for us consumers. :)

I'm happy where i am, not moving from O2. People have waved T-Mobile's offers at me and i've seen Vodafones new tariff but neither are good enough to make me move :) Fact of the matter is this: i know more people on O2 than any other network, if i move calls to them or from them wont be cheap anymore as it'll be xnet rates

Moved back to O2 again then I see? :P

I'm quite happy on my O2 Online tarrif, had very few problems, no serious ones anyway and can't be bothered with all the hassle of getting a new number etc...

Well after getting my mobile nicked i had to give up on o2 mainly as well I had the perfect sim 500 free texts 150 off peak mins and 50 peak mins and free voicemail all for just topping up 15 quid a month. but alas will take me ages to get that again :(

So I have jumped ship to vodafone today :D and well I am locking in on as many of the offers as I can :D

Well I aint quite sure but i had off peak minutes just because i topped up 15 quid 150 of them and i got the messages :s I think was summit to do with the fact i was using a genie simcard still. and the 50 anytime was basically just a bolt on
