The Core is about what would happen if the centre of the earth stopped spinning round. The material spinning round in the centre of the earth is believed to be what creates the electromagnetic field round earth, protecting us from all sorts of nasty stuff like being microwaved!! It's all very well explained in the film and it makes you feel quite intelligent, which is a rare pleasure for me :D
Anyways, they have to build a special machine to take them all the way down to the centre of the earth so they can explode nukes to restart the core.
As the film hadn't been overhyped and I knew nothing about it I wasn't expecting too much. However, it was an excellent film. It wasn't overly-deep or complicated - infact the storyline was pretty transparent, but it was extremely enjoyable and easy to watch. That's not to say there aren't a few subtle twists.
If you haven't seen this film, it's well worth your money.
