View Full Version : INFO - *# codes

Radiolink networks aren't really my bag but I've looked more closely into these so called secret codes we've been hearing so much about.
It seems to be a modification of the test codes used on system-x telecom exchanges. For example if you dial *#001* from a landline you're talking directly to your exchange hardware. (only if you're on system-x. There are other systems in use)
The number above is the code to report the status of subscribed services such as call divert etc. There are also codes to remotlely program these services just like the mobile versions.
Other hidden access points to this landline system are *55* for an automated wakeup call and dialing 175 for ringback, line resistence tests and clear down or 17070 for BTs caller ID check. (you can also access the 17070 test from a mobile by dialing 0800 373983).
On a GSM network I think the details of call divert, call waiting ect. are stored in the Home Location Register so the only way to actually activate options like sim-clocking would be to break into your networks main exchange and hack into the man-machine interface. Not an option? Well you could try a datalink cable to your fone. All you gotta do then is reverse engineer and map the software to find what you want.
Also whichever codes do set options like divert on and off are network and country sensitive. So if you get a list from a german website for Vodafone and you have a t-mobile in the UK they just won't work.
Finally in case you're still tempted to scan your way through these secret codes remember that they dont follow any algorhythmic steps so if you accidently turn on some esoteric security switch it could be years before you find the code to turn it off again!

wow. youve certainly been looking into this in some depth. im not too sure about codes on a landline number but while some mobile fone codes are network exclusive, there are also some common ones u can use for checking status. eg:
*#21# call divert (all/unconditional)
*#30# number of caller is shown
*#31# ur number displayed to recipient
*#33# call barring (outgoing)
*#35# call barring (incoming)
*#43# call waiting
*#61# call divert (if not answered/when no reply)
*#62# call divert (if out of reach/when off/no network coverage)
*#67# call divert (if busy)
*#76# answering number not shown
call divert codes will not work on a payg sim as calls cannot be diverted to another number on prepay. (only to voicemail)

Excellent! I'm thinking we've probably covered pretty much the long and the short of general 'secrets' although I'd imagine theres a few more codes to be found which don't actually reach the network.
The voice mode switches can't be the only ones which alter the software on the 3310. But as I say there's scary ones in there like Master Resets (*shudders*) so I aint messin with them till I get a spare fone!
I'm on a mailing list with some German boys who are studying Nokia softwares so If I hear anything interesting I'll post it up. (hope santa brings me a datalink cable this year!)
Theres only one other thing I found which I can't explain though.
I'm on T-mobile pre-pay and if I insert a star sign between the code and the number propper I get a security message telling me I have no credit. No mater how much credit I actually have.
When you dial for example 07984*(any old number. Don't worry it wont connect), the recording plays. It works for land based area codes too.
I'd be interested in hearing if the same recording plays for different networks. And whether it plays on subscription fones as well as pre-paid. If it's a calling card system of some kind then it can be learned and it can be phreaked!:D
I'd pay me out a brand new twenty sterling note to know which particular machine is spitting out that recording.

The mobile codes are generally all free...
They just remotely alter your settings.
So for example if you change the call divert on your fone menu it sends exactly the same information to the network as typing the *21# code. It's just a different way of doing it.
I was scanning through the switch codes to try and find features I could control which weren't set up on the fone menus. But haven't had any luck yet...
You have to pay standard call costs for dialing actual 0800 numbers from a paygo fone sadly.
--------------------------------
The landline codes are all free as far as I know with the exception of the *55* alarm which is now charged at local rate.

*#06# displays your IMEI number
*#0000# displays model of phone and date made.
On mobiles

*#0000# actually displays date of software not handset manafacture date.
afaik it only works on nokias and for some reason only when a sim card is inserted

Yep. But you can get the manifacture date by typing *#92702689#. Brings up the waranty menu.
You get Made: 1002 for instance. Meaning 10=october 02=2002.

:( The CLID lookup number I listed above, (0800 373983) has gone out of service...
It led a long and eventful life however, bless its little heart. So don't mourn its passing.
Rather remember it with fondness and...
*choke*
*throws himself on the phone yelling 'Why! Why did this have to happen!'*

I'm afraid the Sim Clock is quite useful for two things only; Jack and squat... :p
