Take care to backup all phone data before upgrading your firmware, its also worth noting after the firmware update you may need to reinstall some of your apps and games, as the Nokia backup app has a habit of corrupting them.
Nokia really need to work on there update software a little, Pheonix Service software that was previously used by Nokia Service centres manages to backup everything on the phone, then it flashes the firmware and restores the contents of the phone uncorrupted.
@TD theres new firmware out for N95 and its well worth a download, if your handset is branded you'll have to change your product code with NSS and GSM Magic before you can download it though, as its only generic firmware thats available via Nokia Software Updater just now.

Oo, can you comment on any of the perceived and/or actual improvements?

Most of the firmware updates Nokia releases come with a changes log 3 miles long but you never actually notice much difference, this time round I haven't seen a change log but there is definite improvements to performance all round.
The gallery often suffered picture lag where thumbnails would take a while to show up, but thats been fixed and works superbly now, the UI has also been changed slightly.
Camera has also had a few tweaks, auto focus has been improved and the lag between pressing the button and the picture being taken removed, also pictures taken using close up mode seem even more impressive than before with file sizes well over 2mb. The camera flash patern has also been altered to stop white outs especially on close up pictures.
Video camera performance has also been improved in several areas, the zoom seems a lot smoother and the auto focus lag seems to be pretty much gone.
I've noticed a wealth of other small changes, which means the change log for this firmware update must be absolutely huge, expect future firmware revisions to polish what is already a sparkling gem. :)
Almost forgot, sound quality during calls has been hugely improved, I hated to admit it beofre but it was garbage, I started making calls on my old N80 just to avoid it lol, its fixed now though. :D

That's excellent to hear, lets hope Nokia keep their gaze tightly on their flagship product for a little while longer yet.

Just noticed this thread lol.
Yeah Ive already done it :D
Still experiencing the lag you mentiond in gallery though, but not as bad as previous version :)
What is GSM magic?
I just used Nemesis and the DKU-2 to change product code, then proceeded with NSU :)
Anyone else thinking of doing this - latest version is V 11.0.026 and the product code I used was 0536062

Not sure why your still getting gallery lag as mine is flying now, if your images and videos are stored on a memory card then I'd maybe suspect a slow memory card, I purchased a Sandisk Ultra II which is roughly double the transfer rate of OEM cards to avoid that very issue. :)
GSM Magic enables some options in NSS that I don't think are available before, if I'm being honest I only used it as the guide I read suggested it, I suspect its kinda like the dongle hack for Pheonix although I'm just guessing lol. :D

If you are using the latest version of NSS then you don't need it.

Going by the firmware updates so far its looking good, the last one added AGPS which makes getting a GPS lock much quicker, also they seem to be continuously squeezing a little more out of the hardware every time. I think this should continue for a good while yet as the N95's hardware is likely to be the guts of most upcoming Nokia Symbian handsets, meaning any improvements on those should filter through to the N95. Its good to see Nokia settle on a hardware platform, as the last few handsets practically killed the software and games market, having multiple hardware and software platforms makes it difficult to develop for and puts devs off. :)

It's all good, I agree.
My N73, on the other hand, is coming to the end of the road. Yesterday it stopped receiving incoming calls and by the evening it was screaming 'Insert SIM'. It's working again today. Sigh.

Ah not so good, the old 'Insert Sim' thing is always a bad sign. The silver lining here is that you can replace it with an N95. :D

I'm digging in and holding out for the N95 8GB, looks like a nice update!

Yup the 8GB N95 looks like a sweet update, although you can also buy 8GB transflash cards for about £50 which should be out now or really soon, I bought a 6GB card a couple of weeks ago and its freakin sweet lol. :D

Mhm yeah, it's possibly not the best value, but, of course, it's not just about the extra storage memory - Nokia have doubled the RAM, shoved in a bigger battery and there's also that slightly bigger screen making the device look even more imposing than before.
Still, I reckon I could be swayed off it pretty easily if something else came along. Looks like Nokia may have already made their Christmas play, though, and the other operators haven't been promoting any holiday gadgets that have bowled me over either.

The larger screen, extra RAM and battery life would be sweet, having 8GB of onboard storage is decent but I'd still prefer a 6 or 8GB MicroSD card, with fixed storage you have limited access to the file system, in some cases this can cause major issues and requires a format, with a memory card I'm free to manipulate the file system in any way I choose, I can also backup the entire memory card to my PC for recovery purposes, fixed memory requires you to use the rather shoddy Nokia backup app which is a tad selective on which data it actually backs up. So as much as I'd love to have the new N95 8GB I'd still have to use a memory card. :D
I don't think we'll see many surprises between now and xmas, although you never know. I really can't see any of the other handset manufacturers topping the N95 8GB before xmas....2008. :D
Edit: Forgot to mention the N95 8GB's loss the lens cover is almost unforgivable. :(

Screw lens covers, my phones live a luxurious life (well, until I get drunk and drop them).
I'm set on the N95 8GB now. Apparently it started shipping yesterday. No sign of it for sale, though.

Its not just the lens cover the whole back of the phone looks like its just been lashed together at the last minute, the larger battery is likely the reason behind the hasty redesign.
I'll be expecting to see a review once you get your hands on the N95 8GB, its probably the phone the N95 should have been first time around, Nokia need to refine there handsets before churning them out the door, thus avoiding having to release updated versions a few months later. :)
On another note 2008 is looking very rosey indeed for Symbian, S60 is set to go all touchy feely with a range of touch screen bearing S60 devices planned for next year, I'm not sure I want to give up my keypad but it should be interesting. Check here for more info http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/6089_S60_Touch_Interface_Launched.php :D
