When I try and select a new avatar, after clicking sumbit modifications, it takes me to the 'request password' screen and asks me to put my email address in!

That happens with me as well. What I did is that I pressed 'Back' on the toolbar' and repeated it all again. It worked for me then. Tell me if it works for you.

yet your avatar is just a red X atm so I'd suggest you disable it until we can fix the problems we've got ;)

That's my own fault, I tried doing a custom avatar.....but now it won't let me choose the triple X avatar, keeps coming up with the request password screen! Humph!
